Arbitrary text

Some of PPT2HTML's placeholders only work in the way we've described them above.

For example, :Slide.Ph.TitleText: always becomes the current slide's title text if the slide has a title placeholder. Otherwise, :Slide.Ph.TitleText: becomes a blank.

Some of the placeholders can hold any text you like, and you can use them in pretty much any way you like.

Suppose you don't really need a homepage link on every slide (or plan on creating your own in the template). And further suppose that you're converting presentations for several different presenters, and you'd like each presenter's email address on each slide.

It's quite simple. Include something like this in your template:

For more information, email :Prefs.Home:

Then instead of typing your homepage URL into the prefs dialog, enter this instead:

Bubba at bubba@rednecks.com

Or if you want to get fancy, make the email address a clickable link like so:

For more information, <A HREF="mailto::Prefs.Home:>contact me by email</A>

and type just the presenter's email address, bubba@rednecks.com, instead of the homepage URL.

Currently, :Prefs.Home: and :Prefs.PageTitle: are the only placeholders you can use this way, but we're considering adding more if enough users need this feature.

Don't forget that you can use any of PowerPoint's built-in or custom document properties as well. If you want to substitute the presenter's name, make sure that the Author property contains the correct name in the presentation, and use :author: in your template.

And no matter what PowerPoint calls a property, you can use it for something else. Type anything you like into the Comments field in File, Properties. Use :comments: in your template to substitute the Comments field text into your HTML.
