Keep the session alive (prevent screensaver, logout problems, mouse jiggler)
Problem
Occasionally we get questions about how to keep the screensaver from kicking in, usually from people whose corporate IT people have locked down the computer to the point where they can't change the screen saver settings themselves.
In other cases, the computer may log them out after a period of inactivity.
Solution
If you're able to install software on your pc, there are software solutions to the problem.
One of the PowerPoint Newsgroup regulars recommends Caffeine - a tiny freeware programme available from zhornsoftware.co.uk, which works by simulating a keypress once every 59 seconds, so your computer thinks you're still working at the keyboard, so won't lock the screen or activate the screensaver.
Googling "mouse jiggler" also turns up some other software solutions.
If installing software isn't a possibility, there are inexpensive hardware gagdets that behave like a USB mouse and wiggle the cursor periodically.
There's a lot to like about this Poor Man's Mouse Jiggler.
Another, maybe a little more practical, is available at cyberguys.com for about US$20.
There's a review of it here
Read the whole review before making up your mind ... he has a bit of fun with it before he gets serious.
Disclaimer: we've never used one of these, never bought anything from these guys and know nothing about them. Don't know the guy who wrote the review or any of the people who commented on it. We're not IT guys. YMMV. Do not remove tag under penalty of law. Objects on screen are jigglier than they appear.
