Double-clicking doesn't work
Problem
- PowerPoint won't go from slide sorter to normal view when you double-click a slide
- Nothing happens when you double-click a shape (it should open the formatting dialog box in PowerPoint 97-2003 or change to the Format tab in 2007)
- There are no close (x) or other buttons in the upper right corner of each presentation window when you've got several presentations open and have used Window, Arrange All to organize them.
- Double-clicking a graph doesn't open it for editing.
Solution
The likely cause is that you've installed a PowerPoint add-in that's interfering with the double-click action.
Add-ins known to cause this problem include:
- WebEx
- SwiffPoint Player
See
What add-ins are loaded? for a complete list of all loaded add-ins. If you find one of the add-ins mentioned above, uninstall it using the manufacturer's instructions (or if no instructions are available, try using Tools, Add-ins, select the add-in and click Remove).
Note that there are other ways to add SWF (Flash) animations to your presentations. See Embed FLASH effects into PowerPoint for a list of some of the options.
