My PDFs from PowerPoint are rotated

Problem

Acrobat can detect the orientation of the majority of the text in your presentation and rotate the resulting PDFs so that the text is horizontal. Usually this gives the correct result but the feature must first be turned on. It's off by default in some of Acrobat's job options settings (Press, for example).

Solution

To set this Auto Rotate feature:

• Open a presentation in PowerPoint
• Choose File, Print from the main menu bar
• In the Print dialog box, choose the Distiller or Adobe PDF printer driver (depending on which version of Acrobat you have) then click Properties
• In the Properties dialog box, click the "Adobe PDF Settings" tab
• Choose the Job Options setting you want to edit, then click Edit Conversion Settings
• On the General tab of the resulting dialog box, put a checkmark next to "Auto-Rotate Pages" and choose either "Individually" or "Collectively, by file"
• Click OK and give the new Job Options settings a file name if requested
• Click OK then in the Print dialog, click OK to go ahead and make a PDF or Cancel if you want to try it later

Note about the Auto Rotate settings:

• Individually - analyzes the text on each page and rotates the PDF so that the majority of the text is horizontal
• Collectively - analyzes the text in the whole file and rotates the PDF so that the majority of text in the file is horizontal
